Biography for Pastor Hoover
Rev. B. Penrose Hoover is a native of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He
is a member of the first graduating class of Central Dauphin East
High School (1964), a graduate of Gettysburg College,
where he majored in English (B.A., 1968), and the Lutheran School
of Theology at Chicago (M. Div., 1972).
He also attended lectures in theology at the University of Munster, Westfalia, Germany, and has traveled extensively in Germany
across the years.
He was ordained a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1972 and has served Saint John Center Lutheran Church, East Earl, PA (pastor, 1972-1974); Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lancaster, PA (associate pastor, 1974-1991); Salem Lutheran Church, Lebanon, PA (1991-2002); and Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church (2002-present). He served as Dean of the Lebanon Conference.
In the course of his ministry, Pastor Hoover has served extensively on various community agency boards (for example, Children and Youth, Domestic Violence Intervention, and Family Health Services), as well as church committees and commissions (World Hunger Task Force, Committee on Church in Society, Lutheran Advocacy Ministry in Pennsylvania and others). He has written several plays that have been performed both in church and community settings. In the 1970's he helped develop and appeared on the television production, The Magic Cocoon, a religious program for children, that aired on WGAL-TV. He enjoys reading, films, theatre, walking, and (occasionally) cooking.
He was married to the late Elisabeth Schuring, of Lippe/Detmold, Germany and is parent to four grown children and five grandchildren.
