Devotion for the week of June 16, 2007

Summer begins officially on June 21st.  What did Gershwin have to say about it:  “Summer time and the living is easy…”  Perhaps, life during the summer tends to be more relaxed.  But, with that said, it might just be the best time to be more intentional about thinking about our faith, and making room for God.  When we go on vacation, we should still go to church.  And, maybe we can even consider the differences and similarities in comparison to our home church.

Summer time and the living is easy…  When we are at the beach, in the woods, or in our gardens, we might ponder the majesty of God’s creation.  We might sit down with some free time and read through some of the Bible or some other religious work.  Whatever we might be reading, no doubt we might consider how it speaks to our faith.

Summer time and the living is easy…  In the lazy days of summer, we should continue to lift up our hearts in praise.  In the car rides here to there and back again, we might silently pray to God.  We might sing some Christian hymns or praise songs.  We might test each other on bible trivia.

I hope your summer is a blessing to you, and I hope you welcome the presence of God into your summer plans.  Let us pray…Wonderful God, you give us this season filled with sunshine and delight.  May we recognize that you are there with us in these and all our days.  In Christ, we pray…Amen.
