Relay For Life Team - May 20th

Team Amazing Grace would like to thank everyone who supported our basket raffle/bingo night.  The event raised over $1200 in our fight over cancer.  Over 100 people attended Bingo, and it was a fun evening to benefit a great cause.  Our next event is an even at Isaac's on Sunday May 20th from 4:00 - 9:00 PM.  Anyone who dines (and brings the flyer) our team will receive 25% of the check to benefit the American Cancer Society.  Each step we take is a step to put cancer in the history books, thank you for helping our team make giant leaps!  Isaac flyers are available in the library.  Any questions call Terry Scott at 770-0599  To follow the progress of the team and to make a donation, visit the website at www.acsevents.org/relay/pa/camphill/teamamazinggrace . Bingo Night - May 4

Bingo Night - The Confirmation Class is holding a Bingo Night on Friday, May 4th to benefit our Relay for Life Team. Bingo will begin at 6:00pm and last until 8:00pm. All bingo cards are only $1.00 for the entire evening. Food will be available for purchase beginning at 5:30pm. For planning purposes, please complete a registration form located in the Library to indicate your interest in attending. A prize box is also located in the Narthex for anyone wishing to donate a prize. Thank you.

Emergency Preparedness

The Grace Lutheran Disaster Preparedness Committee was recently created. Our goals are to help the congregation members prepare a personalized family disaster plan; provide guidance, contacts and literature to help in disaster planning; research the possibility for Grace to act as a community rescue shelter, and to keep updated with local, state and federal disaster emergency preparedness developments.  In the future look for more information in Grace's monthly newsletter, web site updates/links and literature in the library.  If you are willing to become a member, please contact David Tschopp at 731-1397.


Souper Bowl Sunday

Souper Bowl Sunday raised 540.11 .  The Social Ministry Board would like to thank all who donated soup and all who helped on the day of the event.  Thanks also to all who supported the event with attendance!

 


Faith and Fair Trade: What's God Got to Do With It? - February 3

Faith and Fair Trade: What’s God Got to Do With It?, a synod-wide workshop on how congregations can be active Fair Traders, will be held Saturday, February 3,  at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, Mechanicsburg.  Sponsored by our synod Global Mission Committee and the Women of the ELCA, this event will feature Kattie Somerfeld as the presenter. Kattie is the Fair Trade Projects Coordinator for Lutheran World Relief.  The day will include hands-on exposure to the Fair Trade Fair model, networking among congregations, and take-along resource packets.  Registration brochures may be accessed on the synod Web site (http://www.lss-elca.org). Giving Tree

The Giving Tree is in the Narthex.  Take a tag, buy and wrap the gift mentioned on the tag and return the package with the tag attached by December 17th.

 


Thanksgiving Envelopes

Receipts from the Thanksgiving Envelopes will be donated to the Ecumenical Food Bank.

 


Thanksgiving Food Boxes - November 19

The Congregation is invited to assist with this project by providing the following items for the food boxes: turkeys, bags of potatoes or instant potatoes, canned corn, canned green beans, canned cranberry sauce, loaves of bread, boxed stuffing mix, canned gravy, and butter.  You may bring non-perishable items to the church before November 19.  The GROWL Box (the big wooden box in the hallway) will be the collection point for the food box items.  Perishable items should be brought to the kitchen downstairs on November 19.

We raised $556.00 for World Hunger.  A big Thank you from Social Ministry to everyone who helped raise such a large amount of money for a worthy cause!

 


Operation Christmas Child - November 5

Operation Christmas Child - Once again, you have the opportunity to help boys and girls around the world have a blessed Christmas. Shoeboxes containing explanatory brochures will be available in the Barkley and Sanctuary Narthexes from October 15th through November 5th. Simply fill the box, designate on the form whether the gift is for a boy or a girl, the age category and return it to the Narthex with a $ 7.00 check made payable to the church to cover shipping, etc. All gifts must be returned by Sunday, November 12th. Monetary contributions, made payable to Grace Lutheran Church, may also be made in lieu of filling a box. Please be sure to designate the purpose as "Operation Christmas Child". For each of the past three years, with your help Grace has been able to fill about 80-90+ boxes. Maybe this year we'll top 100!!


Christian Churches United - October 29

Christian Churches United is asking for men's undershirts (L & XL) and women's underwear (M & L) and socks for the homeless who will stay at the churches in Harrisburg this winter.  There will be a box near the GROWL box until October 29.

 


Bread Sale - October 21/22

After services on Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22, Social Ministry will conduct the annual bread sale.  Proceeds will go to "Bread for World Hunger".  If you are donating bread for the sale, please bring to the large conference room on Saturday morni9ng between 10:00 AM and noon.  Call Diane Brokenshire at 774-1713 or Mary Lear at 763-9354 for details about donating.

 


Quilters

The quilters gave 40 quilts to the American Red Cross this summer.
