Welcome to Grace!

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1948, when the Highland Park community across the river from Harrisburg was first building and growing. Since then, Grace has been an integral part of the West Shore community. This congregation is rooted in tradition, but unafraid to try new things in order to proclaim the gospel. Our worship, our thriving children and youth programs, our study opportunities, and our offsite retreat center (known as Kentland) strive to build up the Body of Christ in order that we may glorify God and serve our neighbors.

The gospel (“good news”) of Jesus Christ tells us that:
· God loves us
· God forgives us
· God calls us
· God equips us

God loves us. God made us (Psalm 139), and knew us even before we were born. We are literally God’s “creatures” because God created us. And what God has made, God calls “good” (Genesis 1) and loves.

God forgives us. Even though we have not always lived the way that God intended, God forgives us (Romans 3) – not because we deserve it, but out of that same parental love in which God made us.

God calls us. The good news of Jesus begs a response from us! Now that we are forgiven for our own wrong-doing, we are free to love others and to share with them the love of God (Ephesians 4).

God equips us. Even though we are to be God’s hands and feet, God does not expect us to do all the heavy lifting alone; God fills us with the Holy Spirit – God’s own presence – to go with us and give us the skills, gifts, and resources to engage the world around us in ministry (1 Corinthians 12) at home, school, work, or play.
